5 people dead in deadly helicopter crash in New York. The incident happened last night around 7:00 P.M. A tourist chopper landed and flipped over in the east river. The pilot managed to escape and all five passengers on board were killed. Rescuers desperately tried to help the people inside.
After the helicopter crashes into the water the pilot radioed for help. The helicopter bled still spinning as the aircraft flips over in the forty-degree water and begins to swing. The pilot distinguished a 33-year-old Richard Vance figures out how to free himself and shout for assistance from a buoyancy gadget.
The five passengers who are taking photos were harnessed in so tightly divers struggled to get them out. Harnesses were in place, so passengers could take pictures with doors open. Officials’ said, “It took a while for the divers to get these people out. They worked very quickly as fast as they could”.
Two out of five died at the scene and three later in the hospital. Moments before the crash, witnesses snap the photos of the helicopter flying at normal altitude with the statue of liberty. The chopper was operated by the tour company ‘Liberty Helicopters’ and its website claims it has been flying safely for over 30 years. But FAA records show at least two accidents, one in 2009 with airplane resulted in nine deaths.
The NTSB blamed that crash on many factors, not just the helicopter pilot. The NTSB is investigating and making a final ruling, the pilot of the helicopter is okay and speaking with investigators. Officials’ believe this was just accident.
Aviation expert, Steve Ganyard said, “A single-engine helicopter when it loses its engine can actually collide. The pilot does a good job getting the helicopter safely into the water, it’s a fairly controlled crash. When helicopter hits the cold water and flips upside down that’s where the tragedy occurs”.
